History of North Point Church

My wife Rachel and I started this church in September 2003. We began meeting in the former Town & Country Theater on North Kansas Expressway. Our purpose was to start a church in order to serve the north side of Springfield. Our dream is to help people experience a life change through 52 unforgettable experiences that build bridges and turn on lights to the community.

By Easter of 2004, NPC was six months old and we began making plans for a new building. By the time NPC was one year old, we had broken ground on the new facility, which sits on our present 31-acre site. By August 2007, we had remodeled and added to our current building. NPC has continued to grow and currently averages almost 4,000 in attendance during our six weekend experiences including Saturday night at 5:00pm and 6:30pm and Sunday at 8:30am, 10:00am, 11:30am & 1pm. It is a long weekend but I love making a difference in an innovative and relevant way.

    Tommy & Rachel -

Boy are we glad you listened to the calling! We love this church…We are so thankful we found NPC while we were still meeting @ the old theatre. It’s still a small church atmosphere for us. Thanks for your leadership & all the work you do for us!

I love your church, Pastor Tommy. I’ve been blessed since I started attending with my best buds. I’m from Texas, too. Born and raised in El Paso, I was also largely educated there, I’m a transfer student to Evangel U. It seems that the Lord has really done a work in our lives since moving out here. Blessings to you.

By the way, I love your style of preaching; you’re a maverick!

Your sermon rocked today Tommy! We thank God everyday for leading us to your church. Being burned by church when I was young, I never wanted to step foot in a church again. The flyers kept coming and after my grandson’s death we tried it. We have been attending faithfully since the first service we heard. Today was especially good! You were on fire! Thanks for all you do.

Thank you for all you do for the community and for not being afraid to be different. I had been burned years ago by a “conventional” church and it took a long time to learn to trust again. I even have some of my kids and grandkids attending and my friends are slowly trickling in now as well. Keep up the good work and God will bless you.

Received your card today. Thank you. First of all, I have had the same experiences with other Churches as most of the previous comments. So, I had not been attending any Church for a long time. Since my wife, Maxine, died last year I went to Church with my son & his family, every time I visited them in Frisco, TX, and was so uplifted by that that I wanted a similar Church here to go to. BTW, they attend Celebration Covenant Church, pastor Kieth Craft, in Frisco. Last Saturday I decided to check you out and I was so pleased that I returned Sunday for another great experience.
I am planning on being a regular. Keep on keeping on, Pastor Tommy. You are awesome! See Ya!

This Sunday was my second time visiting. The first Sunday I came with my husband and our youngest child, this Sunday I came with the three kids and took advantage of the kids programs. I wanted to say that I LOVE this church. I had given up on church for the most part because it was always so unrelateable to me. It seemed like what I needed in my life, help with marrital problems, help with the family, help with addictions in the family ect was never addressed. If it was it was only to point fingers and make us feel badly and out of place. Today at church your message spoke to me and the lack of faith I had in the churches. I am so happy and plan to keep coming. The kids programs were awesome they all had so much fun. Thank you so much for showing me another side of church

  7. Hi Tommy,

    Thanks!

    Hi Tommy,

I just want to thank you and the Lord for what you do. A friend recommended NorthPoint to my teenage daughter and I, we visited and have never missed a service since. We have not been attending church for the past several years, only because we have never found a church home that draws us in as NorthPoint does. Thank you for what you are doing to bring us all to the Lord, bless you and your family in God’s work!

    Morning Tommy,
thanks for following GOD and his plan for NPC. I too, had been searching for a home to worship GOD for a while.. I now have one. Since my dad passed in October my mom now attends with me. Thanks for making it a welcome atmosphere for all.

  10. Carl Ward says:

Tommy, my name is Carl Ward. I am a new first time father, and engaged. We was invited to your church by a very close family friend. I must say it was not the church that convinced us to choose NPC. It was a sermon a small, but yet very large calling from god. The calling for us to call NPC home came in three simple words by you Tommy. Bring the prisoners. Well I was a prisoner both physically and mentally. I served 13 years in prison. I am judged and reminded for my past every single day of every week. But you Tommy, invited a prisoner and his family to call your church home. That shows me you are different, you are a realist, you are a “Do Not Judge A Book By It’s Cover” and love all creations of God. Thank you Tommy. Please tell me how I can get involved with our at risk youth and how I can share a life of negative choices and a life changed by God, and how I turned my mistakes into a lesson. As well as educated myself through God and his way to a eternity filled with joy and happiness. To tell them that it is never to late to live for God. I spoke to at risk youths while in prison and I miss it. I feel it is my calling. Thank you so very much. Thank you for giving us a home and for us to raise our daughter through NPC. XMAS

  12. Gary Kellogg says:

    Hello Tommy,

Just a quick comment on the message of last Sunday (Feb 28th). You mentioned how we, the church, need to quit pointing fingers and start sharing the love of Jesus, a theme that has come across in several messages over the last 2 1/2 years that we have attended. Just wanted to say that it works. We have several younger adults that hang around our house, and one in particular who wouldn’t set foot in a church. He hated God, God’s people, and the church. He did keep hanging around the house, though he used to get angry at us when we would go to church. He has a lot to overcome, but he is more accepting of our commitment, and he has come to NPC a few times. He has a long way to go before he becomes a Christ follower, but he is at least asking questions. He even asked for a Bible, which we furnished for him. But he would never have gone to a traditional church. Keep speaking the message, Tommy. It works. We can reach those that won’t come to old fashioned religion. Thanks.

P.S. He isn’t the only person that is asking questions at our house. There are others, but they all have had either bad religion or no exposure to Jesus at all. It seems to be very common in today’s culture.

    Dear Tommy,

We moved here 5 years ago from California and have just not been able to really connect with a church here. Though we are happy to be in the bible belt, we are very used to non demonation and very comtemporary (rock and roll) types of churches which are hard to find here. We have now come to 3 of your God at the Movies series and we absolutely love your church. Even our 15 year old, Jonah, who always moans and groans about going to church looks forward to NPC, infact he thinks it was his idea to keep going regularly (even though we had already made that decision); My husband and I just love how you keep everyone interested and the service itself is so exciting and the music is incredible. Keep up God’s work. We will hopefully be attending NEXT in the next couple of weeks. We look forward to being part of the NPC family.
